One of my
earliest memories is of our Cajun nanny,Maybelle Cousins holding my younger
brother Benjamin in her hand over a pot-bellied stove in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
I am sure that Ben was crying and that May was yelling at me while waving
a spatula.
